Hi, everyone. I hope you’re enjoying Trash Cinema Club so far.
As you might have noticed, Trash Cinema Club is pretty easy to use. For example, if you want to check out all of the films that are rated to be Essential, that’s easy enough to do. Just go to the Topics menu at the top left of the site, dig down into the menu, find Essential and there you go. Same thing if you want all Canadian films, or all French action films.
But let’s say you’re a bit like me and you just love action films, no matter where they come from. How do you select all of the action films on the site? Up until now, you would’ve been out of luck.
COMPLEX SEARCH TO THE RESCUE
Not anymore. Just type in “action” in the search bar located under the Log In and Register links. That will give you all of the posts with the word action in them, including the categories. Using the old search, you couldn’t search categories.
Using the old search capabilities, it was always possible to isolate the movies made in 1971. Just type “1971″ in the search box. But what if you want to see only the action films that came out in 1971? Now you can type “+action +1971″ in the searchbar (the “+” means “this word must be in the post.” But what if you want all of the action films in the 1970s? Then type in “+action +197*”. The “*” is a wildcard. In the case of this search, you’ll find results for 1972, 1973, 1974, etc. But what if you want only the essential action films of the 1970s? Then you type in “+action +197* +essential”.
One more example: what if you want to see all of the Hong Kong action films from the 80s and 90s, but for some reason, you don’t like Jackie Chan? You might type in “+action -Jackie +Hong +Kong -200* -197*”. How does the search do that? Well, the “-” means “omit any posts with this word.”
Isn’t that awesome?
I’m sure you can think of lots of ways to use this new search capability. Have fun!
